In this episode, Lillia McEnaney catches up with Mateo Romero, a painter from Cochiti Pueblo, as he reflects on his own artistic trajectory, as well as the work of his peers and other artists who inspire his powerful, rhythmic images of the Tewa World. Mateo, along with his brother Diego, was MAIC’s 2019 Living Treasure, and their joint exhibition, curated by McEnaney, The Brothers Chongo: A Tragic Comedy in Two Parts, was on display at the museum throughout that year.
